As a voice major in
college, Mary Saunders understands the
importance of training to use the vocal
instrument carefully and wisely. Our beginner
singing students will study correct breathing
techniques in order to give the best support for
the voice. Then, the voice is strengthened with
basic vocal exercises and correct vowel sounds
and pronunciation are taught. In addition,
students are taught how to use the breath to
support notes produced and to slowly increase
their vocal range and clarity of tone/pitch.
After practicing the foundations, very basic songs come next. Forms of music used include age-appropriate Old English Air, contemporary music, and, eventually, simple Arias. If you need a specific song for a special occasion, we will help with that too. Pieces are assigned each week and checked the following week before new pieces are given. We have a music recital twice a year where students show off what they learned. Participation is optional.
